Not only does a new years eve celebration help you to start off the year right, it is one of the big events of the year in and of itself. I know far too many people who think of the start of the new year as just another party. I've always thought that, if your new year events don't go down in history, they probably were not worth the effort at all. A lot of the people I know tell me that I take it all too seriously. They say that, since deciding to celebrate the New Year on January first is arbitrary anyway, why should we make a big deal about it. In my opinion, it does not matter whether it is arbitrary or not. The fact is, the feeling of making a new beginning with the New Year is real, and the right party can make it that much more festive.

When I was younger, we always had new year events at someones house. It was a good opportunity for everyone to to catch up and renew their relationships with their college friends, and that was a lot of fun. Still, in the last couple of years, I have wanted to make my new year events a little bit more unusual than that. Two years ago, for example, we went to a new years eve party at a club in New York. I was visiting a good friend at the time, and the bash was legendary. There were six bands and a couple Djs all playing, and a pretty stellar light show. By the time the clock struck midnight, I was deep in a trance.

Of course, new year events, like anything else have to get better and better every year. That is why, last year, we decided to have a party out in the desert with a bunch of friends. We assembled a sound system, got some local bands we knew to play, and invited everyone we could think of. Our friends invited their friends and soon, it was probably one of the biggest new year events in New Mexico. Honestly, I do not know what I could do to top that party next year. Part of me wants to have a pretty mellow, down to earth new years event, but part of me wants to have an even bigger party. I'm sure that I will think of something!
