Children’s Birthday Party Themes

I can admit that I have gone overboard in the past with my daughter’s birthday parties. Perhaps it was because her natural mother died when she was very young, or perhaps it was because I didn’t know if I would have children of my own. Either way, her first few birthdays were just too much for young child. This year we didn’t do much for her birthday, and I decided that the larger parties would be more appropriate when she had school age friends to invite. That is when I will really begin to worry about children’s birthday party themes, and giving her the best party she can have.

For younger kids, children’s birthday party themes are rather easy. Chances are good that your child has a favorite TV show, or perhaps a favorite storybook character. Many children like to have that character or characters involved in their party. These children’s birthday party themes are easy to work with because you can find so many things in the stores to go along with what you’re thinking. Just remember not to go overboard, or your children will expect more and more each year.

Children’s birthday party themes for older children can be a little harder. This is when you need to ask your children exactly what they want, and allow them to help you in the planning process. Unless you want the party to be a surprise, they will have the most fun if they are able to help decide what they want to do. They may choose children’s birthday party themes that you may not have considered. Children are sometimes interested in things with a deeper fascination than their parents realize. Just as with anything else in life, it never really hurts to ask.

I do have one complaint when it comes to children’s birthday party themes. This has been something that has been very recent, and I hope this disturbing trend goes away. If you watch television, you may see shows were children who are 15 and 16 years of age have had parties that cost thousands and thousands of dollars. These children’s birthday party themes are indeed over-the-top, and perhaps are setting these children up for disappointment. It doesn’t matter if you can afford it, you are not doing your children any favor by treating them like royalty when they are at such a tender age. Don’t be surprised when nothing is ever good enough after having a birthday party like that year after year.
