How Australia prepares for Christmas is there are many wise Australians buying gifts throughout the year so come Christmas we have spare money. Lately the trend is moving more towards the homemade gifts in Australia as the money belt tightens. Many an inexpensive item can be made quite easily to look and work like the more expensive shop bought gifts.
Australians usually start putting the decorations up in the last week of November. Many cases with more elaborate displays we start earlier. Once again the wise Australians we collect lights over many years to save the burden of having all that expense at the end of the year when trying to enjoy a few days holiday.
Australian families have recently been bombarded by the hampers industry which supposedly will save you money. However it seems as though you pay around 80% more for the items plus delivery. So a great number of us have decided to put our own hampers together over the year and use the savings for luxuries when we want.
Australian Christmas ideas are different from other parts of the world as in Australia it is usually one of the hottest days of the year. Australians are tending to go for the lighter Christmas lunch due to the fact of the heat during this time. We usually eat cold chicken, prawns, salads and ice cream nowadays varying from the traditional hot roast as we are roasting hot already.
In Australia unfortunately we don't do the games and many of the other festivities of Christmas that some countries do. I am currently learning some of the American traditions in hope to help internationalise our Christmas parties for a bit of extra celebration as many of the traditions sound like fun.
One tradition we started a number of years back is just before Christmas we choose a group to donate to at Christmas. We get a number of our home made items soaps, boiled lollies and the like and leave them under the Christmas tree for the group. This I feel gives us more joy than giving to many of our friends and some of our family. This is due to the fact we can only imagine the appreciation of the people knowing they have had a hand made item made for them from someone they don't even know.
Another tradition we have is to go to some of our neighbours and leave gifts for them sharing in the spirit of Christmas. To which many are puzzled and confused about why we are doing this and we reply well it's Christmas a time for giving and sharing.
I personally have never seen a white Christmas however I really wish one day I could as I love the colder weather compared to the hot. ausis.info wishes all the people of the world a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year wherever and whoever they are.
